This is Kuma. She is the founder, President and CEO of Kumachans. Kuma brings 12 years of experience in eating burgers, playing catch-the-ball, chasing her remote control car, swimming in her pond, and barking like crazy at customers who visit her thriving business!

Kuma is really a nice lady! She loves to chase the squirrels and armadillos near her house, but when she catches them, she only runs alongside, and never bites them. She keeps a collection of her t-bones in a little basket, and has a bad habit of dragging sticks and pinecones into her otherwise charming country store.

Above all, Kuma brings love, warmth and happiness to her two humans. They think she's the greatest!

Rie K. Brown, Kuma's #1 Human, founded her collectibles business in 1992. A citizen of Toyonaka, Japan, Rie has always been charmed by the style and flair of American crafts. Finding herself in Mississippi and surrounded by hundreds of skilled craftspeople, she did the only logical thing and started an export business!

Meeting and learning from crafters in Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana, Rie established herself in Japan with two sales reps and the fun began! After gaining a foothold in 12 stores, she began to sell locally too, expanding from handcrafts into plush animals. Rie opened a gift store in Gautier, Mississippi and began selling all kinds of wonderful and heartwarming products.

The next expansion continued along the "collectible" sector of her company, and Rie offered a small variety of boys action figures and comics. The action figures line has grown tremendously as customers reacted favorably to the fine service and fair prices.

In early 1997, Rie moved her store from her rental location to a genuine country store, nestled in the woods of Helena, MS.

The biggest change occurred in December of 1997, when she opened her cyberstore on the internet. Rie contacted the fine folks at Channel 35 Solutions, and they designed and hosted a web site that not only offered all the thousands of products available from her lovely store, but also captured the friendly, country appeal. Being terribly busy with her export business and local store, Rie had to find someone to run the cyber store! It was an easy solution as her beloved dog Kuma stepped up to the plate, and the internet site you know as Kumachans Crafts and Collectibles was born!

As a hobby, Rie enjoys collecting the same items she sells and is especially a huge fan of Snoopy!
